2 Kings 24

It probably doesn't surprise you that the historical books give us some information on what the prophets were railing against. They also allow us to place a prophet in his or her context.

About names of people and places, I have not made up my mind whether to use traditional names (sometimes I do) or a transcription rule that could be automated (sometimes I do this manually). For instance, do I say Babylon, or Babel? So far I have chosen Babel. How to spell Jehoiachim whose name is spelled with a qof, and his child Jehoiakin, whose name is spelled with a kaf. Why transcribe kaf with a ch rather than a k? Why transcribe q as a ch, as is traditional? I know people devote a lifetime dealing with names - another or those loving distractions. So far my distractions are recurring words (clarifying repeated sounds and distinguishing it from parallelism) and the music (simply because it clarifies the text as a whole - not verse by verse as some wrongly say). Other than those, I just read and occasionally marvel.

1 In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babel came up,
and Jehoiachim became a servant for him, three years. And he turned and he mutinied against him.

2 B And Yahweh sent against him Chaldean raiding parties and raiding parties of Aram and raiding parties of Moab and raiding parties of the children of Ammon and sent them against Judah to eliminate him,
according to the word of Yahweh who spoke by the hand of his servants the prophets.

in the sins of Manasseh, according to everything that he had done.

and Yahweh did not consent to pardon.

are they not written in the record of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
