Genesis 21

There are a few surprises here. Isaac, however you spell, it is not as polite as laughter. It is more like making sport of someone. In this chapter in the KJV and NIV it is inconsistently applied to Sarah and Ishmael as if God would not make sport of anyone. (I could have used mock, but that is a real hapax in another context - Psalm 73:8 מוק and it even sounds like mock in the Hebrew.)

Verse 3 is a single thought without rest as is verse 9.

Genesis 21 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And Yahweh visited Sarah as he promised,
and Yahweh did for Sarah as he had spoken.
3c 4B 12
13
2 And Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to a child for Abraham in his old age,
at the appointed time that God had spoken to him.
3c 4A 16
12
3 And Abraham called the name of his son, born to him, whom Sarah gave birth to, for him, Yitschaq. 3c 3g 23
4 And Abraham circumcised Yitschaq his son, a child of eight days,
as God commanded him.

10
5 And Abraham was a child of a hundred years,
when Yitschaq his child was born to him.
3e 4B 9
10
6 And Sarah said, God has made sport of me.
All who hear will make sport of me.
3e 4B 13
8
7 And she said, Who makes a speech to Abraham about Sarah suckling children?
For I have begotten a son in his old age.
3e 4C 17
7
8 And the boy grew and it was weaned,
and Abraham made a great party in the day Yitschaq was weaned.
3e 4C 10
18
9 And Sarah saw the child of Hagar the Egyptian, which she gave birth to for Abraham, making sport. 3c 3g 23
10 And she said to Abraham, Expel this maidservant and her child,
for the child of this maidservant will not possess with my child, with Yitschaq.
3d 4C 18
16
11 And the matter was very irritating in the eyes of Abraham,
concerning the agency of his son.
3c 4B 14
5
12 And God said to Abraham, Let it not be irritating in your eyes concerning the lad or concerning your maidservant. All that Sarah said to you, hear with her voice,
for in Yitschaq your seed will be called.
3d 4C 42
11
13 And moreover, the child of the maidservant as a nation I will render,
for your seed it is.
3e 4B 14
5
14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a flask of water that he gave to Hagar. He set it up over her backside, and the boy, and he sent her away.
And she went, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-Sheva.
3c 4B 37
13
15 And the water from the flask was consumed,
and she cast the boy under one of the shrubs.
3e 4B 9
14
16 And she went and sat herself conspicuously, distant as a bow-shot, for she said, Let me not see the death of the boy.
And she sat conspicuously and lifted up her voice and wept.
3e 4B 29
15
17 And God heard the voice of the lad, and the messenger of God called to Hagar from the heavens, and he said to her, What is with you, Hagar?
Do not fear, for God hears the voice of the lad, in that he is there.
3c 4C 34
18
18 C Arise, lift up the lad and hold him resolutely with your hand,
for a great nation I will render him.
3e 4C 17
10
19 And God gave her eyes sight and she saw a well of waters,
and she went and she filled the flask with water and gave the lad drink.
3e 4C 17
18
20 And God was with the lad and he grew,
and inhabited the wilderness, and became skilled with a bow.
3c 4A 12
12
21 And he inhabited the wilderness of Paran,
and his mother took for him a woman from the land of Egypt.
3d 4B 8
14
22 And it happened at that time that Abimelek and Phykol, chief of his host, said to Abraham, saying,
God is with you in all that you do.
3e 4B 26
13

23 So now swear to me in God here, that you will not be false to me, nor my posterity, nor my descendants,
according to the kindness that I have done with you, you will do with me, and with the land in which you have resided.
3e 4C 22
26
24 Then Abraham said, I myself will swear. 3e 3g 13
25 But Abraham reproved Abimelek,
over the agency of a well of water that the servants of Abimelek had ravaged.
3e 4B 12
17
26 And Abimelek said, I did not know who has done this thing,
and also you yourself did not make clear to me, and moreover I myself had not heard but today.
3c 4B 20
21
27 And Abraham took sheep and oxen and he gave them to Abimelek,
and they cut, both of them, a covenant.
3e 4C 18
9
28 And Abraham laid out seven young lambs of the flock alone. 3d 4B 16
29 Then Abimelek said to Abraham,
What are these seven young lambs these which you have laid out alone?
3e 4C 11
20
30 And he said, Because seven young lambs you will take from my hand,
so that they will be for me a testimony that I have excavated this well.
3e 4C 15
18
31 Therefore he called place that Beer-Sheva [well of the seven, of the oath],
for there they both swore.
3d 4B 13
8
32 And they cut a covenant in Beer-Sheva.
And Abimelek arose and Phykol, chief of his host, and they returned to the land of the Philistines.
3e 4B 10
24
33 And he planted a tamarisk in Beer-Sheva.
And he called there in the name of Yahweh, the One everlasting.
3e 4B 9
11
34 And Abraham resided in the land of the Philistines many days. 3c 3g 16
