Daniel 3

Whew - more Aramaic - but a chapter with a slew of repetition. (Or so I thought.) This chapter is indeed full of repetition, but the words have variations in the lists. And the music is also varied.
Daniel 3 verse 5 in part - music identical to verse 10 for similar but not identical words.

Daniel 3 verse 7 - differing ornaments - same changes in reciting note in 5, 7, and 10.

Daniel 3 verse 10, I restored the m to symphonyah - still slight changes in the position of conjuctions.

Daniel 3 verse 15 - very long recitation on the dominant ... implied threat is supported in the music.
If you have read this story, you will recognize the overdone drama and the play of the text - all parabolic to make the point (not a factual account), the point being that there is one God and only God is to be worshiped, not the paraphernalia of social structure of any kind, religious or political.

I didn't think we could do without the burning fiery furnace. There are some really odd phrases in my glossing, but they perhaps indicate an idiom. What would it be to devour the wink of someone? A sense of jealousy, a sense that the ones who wink are not serious about the orders they are under.

The stem גבר is frequent here, I could have given in and let it be men. But everywhere in Aramaic or Hebrew it has valiant or valour or prevail as gloss (except when it is queen-mother גבירה). Valiant men on both sides of the religious divide are destroyed by the king's demands.

1 Nebuchadnezzar the king fabricated an image of gold with altitude sixty cubits, width six cubits.
He placed it in the grassland of Dura in the province of Babel.

to be brought to dedicate the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king was raising.

12 There are valiant Judeans whom you have appointed over the administration of the province of Babel, Shadrak, Mishak, and Abed-Nego.
These men of valour have not set out the warrant about you the king. Your god they do not revere, and to the image of gold that you have raised, they do not pay homage.

that my gods you did not revere, and to the image of gold that I have raised, you did not pay homage?

And who is that God who will liberate you from my hand?

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with poison, and the image of his face was varied against Shadrak, Mishak, and Abed-Nego.
He answered and said that they should add heat to the furnace unit, seven times over what had been envisioned, additional heat.

22 All because of this, that the speech of the king was hasty, and the furnace had added surplus heat,
these valiant men that took up Shadrak, Mishak, and Abed-Nego, the flare of the fire killed them.
3e 4C 23
29

24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and he arose, vexed.
He answered and said to his consultants, Did we not heave three valiant men into the midst of the fire, bound? They answered and they said to the king, It is certain O king.

and the appearance of the fourth is like to a son of the gods.

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the gate of the burning fiery furnace. He answered and said, Shadrak, Mishak, and Abed-Nego, servants of God Supreme, come out and come here.
Then Shadrak, Mishak, and Abed-Nego came out from the midst of the fire.
